PRESENTED BY QLD MUSIC TRAILS

BALLADS & BUSH YARNS

Our fifth stop invites you and your fellow trail-goers to Charlotte Plains in Cunnamulla, a cherished family-owned and operated sheep station with a century-long legacy. Here, you’ll feel the warmth of a true outback welcome from the Russell family as we gather for an intimate evening of storytelling. Together, we'll tip our Akubra's to the spirited tales that define the heart and soul of life on the land.

Honouring the cherished traditions of bush poetry and yarn spinning, this unforgettable evening brings together an exceptional lineup of live music and local storytellers. Folk-country duo Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham (of The Waifs), country balladeer Brad Butcher (fresh from The Voice), and award-winning country blues/roots artist Sue Ray will perform songs that capture the spirit of outback life. Local storytellers will share tales that capture the grit, humour, and resilience of outback life. Beneath a breathtaking starlit sky, this celebration promises a celebration of life on the land, in all its raw beauty and adventure.

The main event kicks off at 4 pm at the Bore Campsite, but the Russell family welcomes visitors year-round. For an even richer experience, consider arriving early to explore their on-site activities. Unwind with a relaxing Hot Artesian Bath at the Bore Campsite or book a private bathing experience, just a 10km drive away. For a taste of life on the station, take part in a tag-along property tour and delve into the remarkable history of Charlotte Plains.

HOW TO GET THERE

If you are staying at the Bore Campsite, there is 4km of unsealed, good dirt road coming off the bitumen highway at the Creek Road at the Widgeegoarra entrance.

All roads are perfectly suitable for 2 wheel drive vehicles, as long as there hasn’t been any recent rain. Roads are flat and generally in good condition.
