Swing On A Star - A Night of vintage glamour and timeless entertainment

Swing On A Star is a glamorous 1940s‑themed gala set within the historic Underground Hospital grounds. Guests will be transported back in time with lively swing music, vintage décor, and a traditional Sunday‑style roast dinner complete with classic desserts.

The evening’s soundtrack comes courtesy of The Pacific Bells, a celebrated 1940s swing trio known for their tight harmonies, polished choreography, and pitch‑perfect wartime‑era sound. Their performance brings the heart of the era to life, creating a musical experience that’s both authentic and irresistibly fun.

This immersive cultural experience brings together music, history, and community in a truly memorable celebration.

Guiding you through the night is your Emcee, Tania Kernaghan—country music chart‑topper and beloved TV presenter from Network TEN’s What’s Up Downunder.

Guests will also enjoy a complimentary drink voucher and take home a souvenir glass, making the memories of this unforgettable night last long after the final note fades.

Adding to the magic of the evening are mini Twilight Tours of the Underground Hospital, guided by the soft glow of hurricane lamps. These intimate tours offer a rare chance to wander the historic tunnels after dark, uncovering stories, secrets, and the remarkable wartime legacy of this unique site.

Tickets are limited and on sale now via The Mount Isa Underground Hospital and Museum.

Welcome to Mount Isa

Nestled among the ochre-red Selwyn Ranges, on the banks of the Leichhardt River, Mount Isa is a bustling melting pot of culture and industry and also home to the world's third largest rodeo.

It’s grown from strength to strength over the years, but the harsh picturesque landscape has barely changed, becoming one of the main drawcards for visitors each year. Mount Isa has ample places to fish, camp or relax and enjoy an outback sunset. The rugged terrain is a four-wheel-drive’s haven, and visitors can explore the region just as the pioneers of the region did many years ago. The twin jewels in Mount Isa’s crown are the spectacular Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park and its neighbour, the world heritage-listed Riversleigh Fossil Fields.

QMF respectfully acknowledges the Kalkutungu (Kalkadoon) Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, waters and skies of Mount Isa, where Outback Sounds unfolds. We honour their deep and unbroken connection to Country, culture and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise that music, art and story have echoed across these lands since time immemorial, shaped by knowledge holders whose cultural practices continue to influence and inspire this event.
