PRESENTED BY QMF: QLD MUSIC TRAILS

BLACKALL BUSH DANCE

History and heritage lead us to Blackall for the all-new Blackall Bush Dance on Tuesday 11 May for an evening where the traditions of the Australian bush come alive through music and dance within the historic Blackall Woolscour.

Featuring:

  • The premier bluegrass and bush band The Smashing Bumpkins, will strike up the strings and call the dances.

Against the timber, tin and machinery of Australia’s last remaining steam-powered woolscour, there will be fiddles flying and boots hitting the floor, they’ll lead you through the traditional steps, reels and bush dance calls that have brought communities together for generations.

No experience required, just grab a partner, and let the music get you moving.

Tickets to the Blackall Bush Dance are available as a single event, or if you're joining us for the full journey along the Outback Trail, this event is included in the Trail Traveller Super Pass.

THE 2027 OUTBACK TRAIL

Charleville ➜ Blackall ➜ Barcaldine ➜ Longreach ➜ Winton ➜ Julia Creek ➜ Mount Isa

From Charleville to Mount Isa, an Outback Queensland adventure is calling, and music leads the way as QLD Music Trails: The Outback returns for its fifth year from 8 – 22 May.

We invite you to let the music take you on a one-of-a-kind self-drive adventure that blends live music experiences, unforgettable landscapes, and the warmth of country communities into a journey like no other.

Welcome to Blackall

Located on the Matilda Way in the heart of Outback Queensland, Blackall is a welcoming town rich in pastoral heritage and outback character.

Step back in time and discover a town built on wool and water. Come for the history, stay for the hot springs. Blackall was the first town in outback Queensland to strike artesian water back in 1885.

With fascinating museums, unique outback experiences and genuine country hospitality, Blackall is the perfect place to slow down and soak up the spirit of the outback.

QMF respectfully acknowledges the Iningai Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, waters and skies of Blackall, where Blackall Bush Dance unfolds. We honour their deep and unbroken connection to Country, culture and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise that music, art and story have echoed across these lands since time immemorial, shaped by knowledge holders whose cultural practices continue to influence and inspire this event.
