Blackall Historical Woolscour

The Blackall Historic Woolscour, in Queensland’s central-west outback, is the last remaining steam-powered woolscour in Australia.

Opened around 1908 and operating until 1978, it washed raw fleece from surrounding sheep stations to remove grease, dirt and plant matter before the wool was baled and sold.

Much of the original wood-fired boilers, steam engine and washing machinery survives, and the site uses hot water from the Great Artesian Basin.

It’s now a heritage-listed attraction offering tours, so it’s worth checking current opening times before you visit.
