Join us for a special screening of A Journey: Between the Fires, an intimate and deeply moving documentary following one of Australia’s most respected singer-songwriters, Troy Cassar-Daley.
This powerful film traces Troy’s journey through profound grief and loss, as he returns to his childhood home on Gumbaynggirr Country in Northern New South Wales to record what would become his most challenging and rewarding album to date. Shot in September 2023, the documentary offers rare insight into creativity, healing, and the role of Country, memory, and music in navigating life’s hardest moments.
Set beneath the vast Outback Queensland sky, this screening takes place at the historic Royal Winton Theatre, one of the world’s most unique cinematic and live performance venues. Built in 1918, the Royal Theatre is one of only two open-air theatres still operating in Australia and has been lovingly cared for by the Evert family since 1937.
Today, the theatre is operated by Winton Movies Inc., a not-for-profit organisation led by passionate volunteers and family members dedicated to preserving this cultural landmark while supporting tourism and the local Winton community. From iconic film screenings to unforgettable cultural events, the Royal Theatre continues to bring stories to life in a setting unlike any other.
Experience this compelling documentary in a place where history, storytelling, and atmosphere converge for an unforgettable night at the movies.
Tickets are limited and on sale now via the Royal Winton Theatre.
Nestled in the heart of Queensland’s Outback, Winton is a place where red dirt meets big skies and stories run deep. Famous as the birthplace of Waltzing Matilda and rich in pioneering spirit, it’s a town that celebrates creativity, resilience and the true essence of the Outback — where history, culture and community come together in every smile and sunset.
QMF respectfully acknowledges the Koa Peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands, waters and skies of Winton, where the event unfolds. We honour their deep and unbroken connection to Country, culture and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise that music, art and story have echoed across these lands since time immemorial, shaped by knowledge holders whose cultural practices continue to influence and inspire this experience. Always Was, Always Will Be.
