Grab your swag, round up your mates and head out west for an outback musical adventure. The next stop? St George, where you'll settle along the tranquil banks of the mighty Balonne River.
The Outback 2025 continues with Saddle Up— a spirited invitation to for both trail-goers and locals alike to gather at The Australian Hotel and celebrate the start of an unforgettable adventure.
We’re launching the adventure with a classic pub musical bingo night— the perfect opportunity to meet your fellow trail-goers and enjoy the first of many hearty pub meals to come.
Starting from Brisbane, take the Warrego Highway (A2) towards Toowoomba. As you head west, you’ll continue along the Moonie Highway (State Route 49), passing through towns like Dalby and Moonie, where you can pause for food, fuel or just to soak in the outback atmosphere. With fully sealed roads suitable for all vehicle types, the approximately 500-kilometre route can be comfortably travelled in around six hours.
If you’re looking for a faster option, consider flying part of the way. A direct flight from Brisbane to Roma takes just over an hour. Upon landing in Roma, you can easily hire a car for the scenic two-hour drive (200 kilometres) south along the Carnarvon Highway to reach St George.
In St George, you'll find a wide array of accommodation options to suit every preference and budget. From cozy motels and delightful bed-and-breakfasts to self-contained units and welcoming caravan parks, there's something for everyone.
To explore all the options, visit the St George Region website.
Nestled along the banks of the Balonne River, St George is a charming outback town. It offers a delightful blend of rich history and natural beauty, with opportunities for fishing, boating, and scenic walks. Immerse yourself in local culture at the St George Heritage Centre, explore the picturesque gardens and have a yarn with the friendly locals.
