Start your QLD Music Trails – The Reef adventure on the stunning Magnetic Island / Yunbenun, the traditional land of the Wulgurukaba people. Just a breezy 20-minute ferry ride from Townsville / Gurambilbarra, your journey begins with Magnetic Island LIVE.
Held at Nomad’s Backpackers Beachside Bar, this event is the ultimate way to unwind and celebrate after conquering the iconic Great Island Trek. Whether you’re a trekker, traveler, or local, Magnetic Island LIVE brings everyone together to enjoy live music from Amber Farnan and Tom Busby, delicious food, and refreshing drinks—all in one of Queensland’s most beautiful locations.

Reef Sundowner

The next stop on our journey through paradise invites you to trade the seaside for the serene beauty of the lakeside, as we make our way to Lake Proserpine / Gia Country for the Reef Sundowner.
Settle in for a delightful afternoon of live acoustic folk music, delicious local food, and breathtaking lake views, all set on the traditional lands of the Gia people. Join fellow trail-goers and locals for this free event as we indulge in fresh sourdough pizza, let the kids enjoy the jumping castle, and bask in the warmth of good company.
For those wanting to extend the experience, the nearby campground offers a chance to stay the night by the lakeside.

Between the Tides

Our journey along QLD Music Trails - The Reef culminates in its flagship event, Between the Tides—an award-winning, world-first concert series set on the shores of Cape Hillsborough National Park. This exclusive experience merges music with nature, unfolding between two tidal movements in a truly unforgettable setting.
Just 40 minutes north of Mackay, Between the Tides offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness some of Australia’s most celebrated artists—Xavier Rudd and Kee’ahn—perform amidst the untouched beauty of Yuwi Country. Over two magical evenings, you’ll be immersed in a one-of-a-kind concert experience framed by pristine coastal vistas and the rhythm of the tides.

"Songs from the Reef" is an exciting community songwriting program for emerging songwriters living along Queensland’s stunning reef, from Townsville to Mackay. Starting in April, 20 songwriters will join a 10-week online program with I Heart Songwriting Club to sharpen their skills, receive expert mentorship, and write up to 200 songs. The journey will come to life at QLD Music Trails – The Reef, where participants will showcase their talent at The Reef Sundowner fireside jam in Proserpine on June 12, 2025.
Expressions of interest are open from Feb 4 to March 3, 2025.
This program is proudly developed and presented by I Heart Songwriting Club, with support from QMF and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
