First Nations Experience
As a leading cultural hub, NorthSite Contemporary Arts offers a vibrant GALLERY, STORE, and STUDIOS that bring the community together through high-quality EXHIBITIONS and unique EVENTS.
At NorthSite’s STORE, a curated collection of artwork from across Far North Queensland features local and sustainably sourced pieces, including stunning works by First Nations artists. Visit us at Bulmba-Ja, 96 Abbott St. We’re open Monday to Friday, 10am-5pm, and Saturdays, 10am-4pm.
At our STUDIOS on 55 Greenslopes St, artists are given space to create, collaborate, and run workshops.
This month don’t miss I, OBJECT a Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art touring exhibition. Featuring over 60 contemporary and historical works from QAGOMA’s Indigenous Australian Art collection and curated by Bruce Johnson McLean, the exhibition explores themes of creation, colonial impact, and cultural pride. Engage with I,OBJECT conversation, a panel discussion on Saturday 16 November from 10:30AM to 2:00PM. Join the dialogue on topics such as cultural motifs and protocols, the effects of power structures and knowledge systems in collecting institutions, repatriation of cultural materials and traditionally grounded objects in a contemporary context.
Also, join us as WAARI presents MUKI, a live-show experience combining music, dance, art, and projections. Catch the performance at Bulmba-Ja theatre on 29 November 2024, 7:00pm – 10:00pm.
