The Tropics Trail

First Nations Experience

Tour

Just a 15-minute drive north of Port Douglas or 1.25 hours from Cairns is beautiful Cooya Beach (Kuyu Kuyu), a special place and traditional fishing grounds of the Kubirri Warra people and home to Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tours. With over 26 years in operations, join our first nations guides on one of the longest running authentic, Indigenous experiences that Far North Queensland and the world has to offer. We are a family run business that take pride in giving our visitors an unforgettable experience.

Standard tour: This tour is our educational tour and is popular with educational departments such as schools and universities. Learn to safely handle and throw a traditional spear. Afterwards, walk with spear in hand along Cooya Beach while identifying and learning about our traditional medicines, food sources and unique eco system. Before the tour concludes, join the First Nations guide for some freshly made damper with syrup while learning about our artefacts that are on display. As this tour is tidal based, tours run at either: 9:30AM or 1:30PM

Private tour: This tour includes everything that the educational walk (Standard Tour) offers, as well as the inclusion of our traditional spear hunting activity and a cook-up if anything is caught for some taste testing. This is our top-selling tour, book in early to avoid disappointment.
