About
If you’ve spent any time in the Melbourne music scene this year, you’ve undoubtedly heard the name “Playlunch” on more than one occasion. Since bursting onto the scene only 2 years ago, the enigmatic eight-piece have gained a reputation for their unique brand of Australian Bogan Funk bangers.
Dressed head to toe in traffic-mat tracksuits, and adorned in speed-dealer sunnies, and yellow zinc – the band’s midnight shows have become renowned for anthemic dance jams such as “Blue Light Disco” and “Foxtel Girl.” These shows are repeatedly packed with 00s babies dressed in No Hat No Play bucket hats, Kevin07 Handball tees and rumoured to include aths day style house chant competitions between divided sections of the bustling crowd.
Since going viral on TikTok in 2023 with a live clip of their track “Soupe Opera” (a rap remix of the ABC classic) the boys have been trailblazing a path through the Aussie music scene with their self-produced debut album “Who’s Ready For A Good Time?”
Recorded in a shed out back of a Brunswick share house, the 10 track LP includes features from the likes of Julia Gillard, Aunty Donna, Corey Worthington and Iceman / wellness guru Wim Hof. Mixed and mastered by the guys from Northeast Party House, this debut combines the instrumental sensibilities of late 70s funk / disco with the mixtape-production stylings of early hip-hop, EDM and indie bedroom pop – all through the lyrical filter of 00s Australia.
