Sweet ~Relief! 2023~

About

Latifa Tee, AKA Latifa Tasipale, has found many avenues for her undying passion for music: DJ, radio host at triple j, recording artist and all-round personality, she’s become a nationwide staple for her charismatic embrace of hip-hop, R&B & dance music.

She was first introduced to music through her DJ Dad; on the day she came home from hospital, her Dad excitedly played Tupac’s All Eyez On Me and Biggie’s Juicy – to a 3-day-old baby… and she’s been hooked ever since.

Born and raised in Roselands, on the traditional lands of the Cadigal, Wangal and Bediagal clans of the Dharug tribe, she is a leader in the so-called Australian music industry, advocating for diversity, accessibility, representation & visibility. As a proud queer, Samoan-GuriNgai woman with a Bachelor of Arts/Laws from the University of Sydney under her belt, she prides herself on speaking her mind, sharing resources and skills, and facilitating discussions on arts policy & the swiftly evolving – and growing – music industry in so-called Australia.

As a DJ, Latifa brings a contemporary edge to her traditional upbringing behind the decks, having played alongside international heavy-hitters like EARTHGANG, ASAP Ferg and Jaden Smith, as well as homegrown heroes like ChillinIt, Kwame, Hayden James, Confidence Man, and Vera Blue.

She’s performed to thousands of punters at mainstay festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Beyond The Valley, Spilt Milk, Day Trip Festival, Deep Hard N Funky (NZ), Summer Camp Festival and Oktoberfest. Latifa also brings her undeniable stage presence to DJ live performances for Sydney R&B vocalists Becca Hatch and A.GIRL, as well as rapper Kobie Dee, solidifying her strong roots in so-called Sydney’s emerging creative scenes. Every weekend, she soundtracks dancef loors in nightclubs across the country, and locally, she’s a regular at events like Lost Sundays, Heaps Gay, GiRLTHING. You name a party, she’s played it.

Having released her debut album titled When A Girl Loves in Japan at just 17 years old, Latifa has had multiple songs reach #1 on the R&B charts. Her debut single, Games, has clocked over 800,000 streams on Spotify with no playlist support. Her music has also been played on commercial radio stations such as KIIS-FM and Power 106 in Los Angeles, as well as locally on KIIS FM, 2Day FM and The Fox. Latifa made a return to music in 2020 with ‘Cupid’ and the accompanying ‘(Midnight Edit)’, marking a new sound and direction for the independent artist.
